Holden Colorado 4×4 sales on the up

The recently refreshed 2017 Holden Colorado is a much better thing than it used to be, and sales of the ute are starting to reflect that.

The numbers are going up in the more expensive four-wheel-drive segment – to the end of October 2016, sales of the Holden Colorado have increased 7.2 per cent year-on-year. Sales of 4×2 versions of the ute, though, are down 21 per cent for the same period.

The updated version brought with it big improvements to refinement, value and comfort, and it’s those elements – rather than budget pricing for the workhorse models – that is appealing to buyers.

According to Holden executive director of sales, Peter Keley, the dual-cab, dual-purpose utes are finding a strong buyer base.

“We’re already seeing growth with the new Colorado, with sales of LTZ and Z71 at this stage exactly where we expected them to be,” Keley said.

“We’re also seeing trade-ins from Ranger and HiLux, just as we predicted when we launched that vehicle,” he said. “Customers are also taking up those new accessories we launched with the new Colorado.”

The Colorado currently ranks fourth in the 4×4 ute segment with 14,036 sales year-to-date. It’s behind the big-selling Ford Ranger, which is in position number one so far this year with 25,189 sales, the Toyota HiLux (24,946 sales) and the Mitsubishi Triton (14,869).

In terms of overall sales – including 4×2 utes – the HiLux is still the sales king, with 34,179 sales to the end of October this year (in fact, it was the October sales winner, too, beating the number of sales for all other vehicles on the market).

The Ranger is second (30,157), then there is a big gap to the Triton in third (18,340), while the Colorado again ranks fourth overall (15,765). The Nissan Navara is fifth, with 13,831 sales.
