Ford teases more concepts for SEMA 2016
Ford has revealed renderings and sketches of more concepts based on production models ahead of the 2016 SEMA show, with the latest crop including vehicles based on the Mustang, Fusion (Mondeo), F-150, F-250, and Transit.
Like the Fiesta and Focus concepts previewed last week, these show cars feature numerous styling, performance and mechanical upgrades.
The company says it will bring more than 50 customised vehicles to SEMA next month, along with “multiple Ford Performance announcements”, hinting at new upgrade packages that will be available in select markets.
Here are some highlights of what’s to come:
Orange is the new black – Ford Mustang Ecoboost
This Mustang convertible has been finished in ‘Pearl Candy Orange’, and is powered by the company’s 2.3-litre Ecoboost engine.
Upgrades to the drop-top pony car include a new intercooler, exhaust, front and rear swaybars, six-piston front and four-piston rear brakes with drilled and slotted rotors, 20- by 9.0-inch front and 20- by 10-inch rear alloy wheels in Falken Azenis tyres, along with a carbon-fibre body kit, light bar, illuminated pony grille and orange interior highlights.
Ford Fusion Sport goes Ballistic
Closely related to the Mondeo, the Ford Fusion in the US is offered in a ‘Sport’ grade which drops a twin-turbocharged 2.7-litre V6 Ecoboost engine under the bonnet.
Driving all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission, this ‘Ballistic White’ Ford Fusion Sport concept is fitted with an axle-back exhaust, performance suspension, six-piston 15-inch front and four-piston 13.8-inch brakes with ceramic brake pads and stainless steel-braided brake lines, 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Toyo Proxes tyres, along with a front splitter, side skirts, bonnet vent and ‘Shadow’ tinted glass.
Inside, the Ford Fusion Sport Ballistic concept features a sunroof, custom leather and suede interior and Ballistic White colour-matched interior trims.
Bojix Design – Ford F-150
As if the ‘standard’ Ford F-150 wasn’t bold enough, this concept by Bojix Design enhances the big truck’s off-road ability with a number of mechanical upgrades, and has the looks to boot.
Under the bonnet is a 3.5-litre Ecoboost engine, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
Modifications include a new intake, exhaust muffler, intercooler, upgraded turbo, Brembo brakes, 7.0-inch lift kit, front and rear differential gears, 22-inch alloy wheels with off-road tyres, motorised side steps, 30-inch, 40-inch and 50-inch light bars, along with Raptor headlights and a tray-mounted storage system.
Shockzilla – Ford F-250
Another off-road inspired concept comes in the form of the ‘Shockzilla’, based on the F-250 Super Duty 4×4 Lariat Crew Cab.
Powered by a monster 6.7-litre turbo-diesel V8, the F-250 Shockzilla features custom catback exhaust stacks, eight-inch suspension system, 20- by 10-inch wheels wrapped in off-road tyres, retractable side steps, wheel arch flares and a custom paint job.
Ford says “Shockzilla Super Duty is a refined beast of a truck that does it all”.
Shagadelic Retro-Cool – Ford Transit Custom
This custom Ford Transit Custom van has a 3.5-litre Ecoboost engine under the bonnet, and has a look inspired by the retro 1976 Ford Econoline custom concept.
Headlining features include a performance exhaust with custom side tailpipes, 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Redline tyres, front splitter, fog lights and custom gold leaf paint with the WyoTech 50th logo.
Inside the funky Transit is equipped with leather seats, front and rear sunroofs, a Kenwood audio system with Rockford Fosgate speakers, subwoofers and amps, along with 20-inch flip-down centre monitors.
