2017 Volvo XC90 Excellence available in Australia: $172,200 starting price for super-luxe SUV
The 2017 Volvo XC90 Excellence is now available to order in Australia, starting at $172,200 plus on-road costs.
Volvo’s uber-luxe SUV is the new flagship model in the XC90 family, which previously topped by the T8 R-Design variant, which kicks off at $122,950 plus on-roads.
Unlike its more practical seven-seat siblings, the Xc90 Excellence features a limousine-style four-seat layout, including individual rear bucket seats that can be adjusted electronically and are heated, ventilated and massaging.
Other plush features of the top-spec Swedish SUV include touchscreen entertainment systems for each rear passenger, a lengthy centre console that extends to the second row with built-in tables, and heated/cooled cupholders for the custom-made crystal glasses.
The seats are trimmed in perforated Nappa leather, available in either beige or charcoal, while the centre console features an in-built refrigerator, and a Bowers & Wilkins sound system pumps ensures a premium aural experience.
Increased sound deadening and even noise-cancelling rubber for the eight-spoke 21-inch alloy wheels.
Ten colours are on offer, with seven being different shades of white, grey and black, along with Magic Blue, Twilight Bronze and Luminous Sand.
Powering the XC90 Excellence is the same plug-in hybrid powertrain as the T8 R-Design, which teams a turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a battery bank and electric motor.
The hybrid system boasts combined outputs of 300kW and 640Nm, with drive sent to all-four wheels.
It’s unknown whether the baby capsule and ottoman concepts will make it into production as options, which saw the removal of the front passenger seats for a removable baby pod or foot rest.
While the $170,000+ price tag seems very steep, the limousine-inspired SUV is something of a bargain when compared to other SUVs with similar interior and luxury concepts like the Range Rover SVAutobiography (from $347,900) and Bentley Bentayga ($420,600).
