2017 Ford EcoSport facelift bound for LA motor show

The Ford EcoSport is set to receive a significant update for Los Angeles motor show next week.

This week, the company’s head office tweeted that the “all-new” EcoSport would be headed for a three-day event called “Go Small. Live Big”, and will be introduced by rapper DJ Khaled via social media platform Snapchat.

The LA-bound EcoSport won’t be an all-new model from our perspective, however, with this appearance simply marking the compact SUV’s North American debut – timed to coincide with a styling makeover.

The EcoSport was first introduced Down Under in 2013, though the nameplate dates back as far as 2003 in South America.

It’s unknown what exactly the update has in store, but expect a refreshed look that brings the EcoSport in line with the new Escape/Kuga and Edge.

Other changes will likely include the company’s Sync 3 infotainment system – replacing the current car’s ageing non-touchscreen unit – along with a revised engine line-up.

In Australia, the Ford EcoSport is currently available in Ambiente, Trend and Titanium variants, offered with the choice of the company’s 92kW/170Nm 1.0-litre EcoBoost three-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed manual or a 82kW/140Nm 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated unit paired to a five-speed manual or six-speed auto.

Despite starting at a competitive $20,790, Ford’s baby SUV has struggled to gain traction here, managing only 98 sales last month and 1530 year-to-date, well behind competitors like the Mazda CX-3 (1176/15,493) and the Mitsubishi ASX (1650/15,112).
